City Growth is based on Harvard Professor Michael Porter’s model of business clusters as hubs for enterprise activity and growth, and in the UK the London Development Agency and the Department of Trade and Industry’s Small Business Service fund the programme.

South London Business, the business-led private/public partnership and acting ‘voice of South London’ (strapline: Helping South London prosper) invited STRATEMARCO to help synthesise and analyse the findings of its research to develop a City Growth Strategy for the Heart of South London, and to draft the final published reports. The report covered 11 district areas and three London boroughs: Croydon, Bromley and Lambeth.

Working closely with the Project Manager and his Strategy Board – which included representatives from Jones Lang La Salle, BT, Baker Tilly, AMEC and Barclays Bank -- we overcame the challenges of extremely tight deadlines to deliver a full Strategy Document and Summary Document reflecting our client’s best practice consultation approach. The work did the Strategy Board proud, articulating a clear and robust vision, as well as aims, objectives and priorities for action. The reports were among the ten City Growth Strategies officially launched by the Rt Hon Alun Michael, Minister for Industry and Regions, at a special ceremony in London in March 2006.
